I'm new to wood stoves and am planning on installing my stove plumbing through a masonry (non-combustible) wall. Besides the six-inch 90 degree elbows and six-inch stove pipe, is this all that I need to complete the installation of my wood stove?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 6, 2012

    Answer:
You would indeed use your 6-inch stove pipe (if this is the size the stove calls for) and 90 degree elbow to make the turn to exit through the wall. However, before passing through the wall, it is necessary to convert to Class A chimney. This is true for both combustible and non-combustible walls.

The Class A chimney must be used for the remainder of the chimney run after you pass through the wall. Standard 6-inch stovepipe is not meant for use outdoors and will build creosote quickly, as well as cause difficulty operating the stove
