Is the wood used in this shelf more suitable for paint or for stain?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 8, 2012
Answer:Some variation can occur in the coloring of the unfinished wood used to construct this product. As such, it is more suitable to painting than staining.

Can you tell me what the wood is? I'm interested in staining this a medium color. I don't want a prominent grain like oak, but something more fine-grained like pine, maple or cherry.

Answer:Per the manufacturer, this shelf is constructed of poplar.

As far as attaching this Empire 60" Profile wooden mantel shelf with standard trim to the wall, what does it come with and what will I need to purchase separately?
By Will M. on November 23, 2015
Answer:This unit does come complete with the needed hardware for assembly, as well as the mounting boards that are attached to the wall for hanging the surround. For uneven surfaces, you may need to apply mortar to the stone surface to level it out before installing the surround.

We are building a new home with veneer stone from the ceiling to the floor for the fireplace. How should this be mounted since the stone is a stacked stone and is somewhat uneven?
By eFireplaceStore on January 8, 2015
Answer:When mounting over stacked stone that is uneven, the best thing to do is test fit the mantel over the stone and make an outline of where the mantel will lay over the stone. You can then use a castable mortar to make a smooth mounting surface over the stone, in order for the mantel to lay flat. Most mortar products that are used to fill between the stacked stone can be used for this purpose.

How high off the fireplace does this sit? I only have about 3 inches before it would hit the bottom of my flat screen TV.
By Kevin E. - Fireplace Specialist on April 13, 2012
Answer:You are free to install this mantel wherever recommended by the manufacturer of your fireplace. This is normally somewhere between 6 to 12 inches above the fireplace opening. Please note that this mantel features an overall height of 5 1/4" inches.
