What is the weight for the 48 mantel?
By eFireplaceStore on August 11, 2014

    Answer:

By Violet Sardo from Woodbury, NY on May 7, 2012
I have a stone fireplace. How does it stay on wall?
By Kevin E. - Fireplace Specialist on May 7, 2012

    Answer:
This mantel takes advantage of a wall cleat for installation. The cleat will need to be screwed to the brick face of your fireplace and the mantel shelf will then hang from it.

By Richard from Tucson, AZ on February 19, 2017
What is the depth of the 36" shelf?
By Owen on February 20, 2017

    Answer:
    The depth is 8 inches.

I like the Pearl No. 418 Homestead Mantel Shelf, unfinished #418-72 (72" top shelf length), but shows Overall height 4-1/2"... I only have room for an overall height of 4" exactly!
By Customer Service on October 17, 2011

    Answer:
Unfortunately, the dimensions on the Pearl Mantels cannot be altered in any way. We have had customers make similar inquiries previously, and the manufacturer has told us it is not something they can accommodate. I apologize for this inconvenience.

By Pam from San Diego, CA on December 14, 2015
Can you please describe or send a picture of how this Pearl Mantels 418 Homestead antique finish mantel shelf should be installed?
    By Will M. on December 15, 2015

    Answer:
This shelf uses a wall cleat for installation. The cleat will need to be anchored to the masonry or drywall above the fireplace opening and leveled.

The shelf will then be pushed down on to the cleat until it snaps into position. The manufacturer provides basic hardware for installation, however masonry anchors will need to be procured locally.

By Pat from Germansville, PA on April 5, 2014
I am looking for a hollow mantel where I can run wires through it for the TV I will be placing above it. If I can't run electrical wires through it, do you have any that would accommodate?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on April 7, 2014

    Answer:
Per the manufacturer, this particular shelf is manufactured with a hollow space that would allow you to conceal wires/cables within it. You would likely need to notch the shelf to allow the wiring to enter and exit, if there is not enough of a gap in the brick mortar joints to accommodate the cables.

By Peggy from Corpus Christi, TX on February 17, 2015
Can this mantel be mounted over a brick fireplace?
    By Chris C. on February 17, 2015

    Answer:
The mantel purchase will include a wall cleat that will need to be screwed to the brick face of your fireplace allowing the mantel to hang from the wall cleat previously secured to the brick facing.

By Girish from Andover, MA on December 1, 2013
Can this Mantel and its mounting support 60Lbs of weight? I wish to place a TV on it. I wish to buy the Model that is 60" in length. Is the cleat 50" to 60" long, too?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 3, 2013

    Answer:
Per the manufacturer, this shelf can indeed support a television, as long as the wall cleat is properly anchored to masonry or wall studs. The cleat that is included with the 60 inch shelf will be approximately 42 inches long.

By Sue from Ahwahnee, CA on July 17, 2015
Does this Pearl mantels 418 Homestead Antique Finish Mantel Shelf come unfinished only? I don't see a selection bar for the particular stain color I want. Also, does this attach to ledger stone must it be installed prior to the stonework being completed?
    By Will M. on July 20, 2015

    Answer:
I apologize for the confusion, but the product in question comes with an "Antique" finish as shown in the product picture. The unfinished version is available here. The mantel will come with a wall cleat for installation and this can be installed with locally sourced masonry anchors after the stone work is completed.

By Celeste from San Diego, CA on February 20, 2012
What is the installation for this shelf? I am working with a contractor and he wants to find out how it will be installed.
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on February 21, 2012

I'm so happy with my purchase of the Homestead Antique Finish Mantel! I don't think the picture does it justice as it's beautiful and very well made. It's actually not installed quite yet as my contractor is still doing the stonework. If there's any deviation, I'll submit an additional review but as it stands, I don't think I could have made a better selection -- either in design or price. This store has also provided good customer service and delivery was exceptionally fast and free.
    Pros:
Looks like it should cost more than it did -- very good workmanship.
    Cons:
    None so far.

Good Online Store. Stylish Mantel. Easy Install.

I would recommend this item to a friend.
The Item arrived on time and in good condition. We ordered it unfinished, so we had to apply a base-coat and the final coat of paint, before use. We mounted it against the brick chimney. It looks very stylish. For the price it was worth it. I wish the wood was harvested locally.
    Pros:
    Easy to prepare and paint.
    Cons:
The installation needed a lot of fine-tuning. For example this 5ft mantel hooks on to a 4ft cleat. I had to attach the cleat to the brick fireplace. But when I placed the mantle on the cleat I found out that the top was not level. Any attempt to make the mantel level, lifts it slightly off of the cleat and then it does not feel snug. I had to shim wooden wedges from the bottom of the mantle to level it. I had to create my own. It would have been good if they provided some wood wedges from their waste-wood.

After doing some research, I found that this mantel fit my needs perfectly. Although I had someone else mount the mantel, there seemed to be little effort needed on his part. I placed additional fasteners at the base of the mantel to give extra support.
