Can I use this spray-on paint for my gas fireplace?
Yes, you can use this paint to refinish a gas fireplace. I would recommend prepping the area with steel wool or very, very fine grit sandpaper to ensure it does not continue to flake.

Unfortunately, none of the high temperature paints we offer should ever come in direct contact with an open flame.

Can I paint the inside of a fireplace hearth with this Thurmalox low-sheen paint?
This paint would be ideal as it can withstand heat up to 1200 degrees, but be sure to cure the paint by building several small fires at about 500 degrees to allow the paint to cure. Also, please note that direct contact with the flame will undoubtedly cause the paint's longevity to decrease.
