When installing this system, can you put a straight piece of piping between 41S-6 to create separation between this elbow and the burner pan? Or, is that the purpose of the heat shield?

Yes, the heat shield is designed to protect the remote receiver so that no additional extension is necessary.

Does this system need 110v or is it a millivolt system?
