Any combustion appliance requires a combustion air supply, and this Outside Combustion Air Kit by Vantage Hearth provides for that requirement. This air kit with Flex Line is designed to be used with Vantage Hearth heating appliances that require outdoor combustion air flow, and enables the stove or appliance to pull air from outside of the house rather than from the inside. These air kits increase overall heating efficiency and keep the whole house warmer because you are pulling in air directly from outside rather than through the house.

Can I use the flex line for the exhaust vent for my pellet stove?
    1 Answers
You may only use pellet vent pipe for exhausting a pellet stove. This outside air kit is only approved for use with various Superior/FMI wood burning and gas fireplaces. It draws in fresh air from the outdoors when installed with these systems and is in no way tested to exhaust combustion gases under positive pressure.

I have a vent that is very similar to this and I am just now finding out what it is for. However, the inside of my vent hood has a flap that closes over the opening into the fireplace and house so I am not sure how this is drawing outside air if the flap is closed. Is this perhaps a dryer vent and not an outside air kit?
    1 Answers
It does indeed seem as though at some point the external hood to your fireplace fresh air kit was unknowingly replaced with a dryer vent cover instead. Being that these are designed to let fresh air back into the fireplace when the house is under negative pressure, a standard dryer vent cover would not allow the fresh air kit to operate as designed.

Unfortunately, this air kit is not compatible with this stove, nor is an outside air kit produced for this particular model. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Is this kit required for a wood burning fireplace?
    1 Answers
The manufacturer does not require this kit to be used with their wood burning models, however it is an excellent idea to use it. As homes become tighter and tighter, makeup air is often at a premium. The large amount of dilution air that is pulled from the home during a wood burning fire can eventually lead to a vacuum effect, with smoke being drawn back down the chimney and into the home. Furthermore, some jurisdictions require the use of such a kit, due to the aforementioned issue.

What is color and type of material of the outside vent cover (the part that looks like a dryer vent cover)?
    1 Answers
Per the manufacturer, the outer vent hood is unpainted galvanized aluminum, but it can easily be painted to match your home.

The cover for the vent on the outside of the house was broken. Can I replace that cover? My house has vinyl siding. I have pulled off all of the calking around it but nothing feels loose and I don't want to damage the siding trying to get the old vent cover out.
    1 Answers
While we do not carry just the cover itself, the cover from this kit could be used as a replacement. The cover is no more than a dryer vent style cover.

Does this item work with the model V3612ST see-thru fireplace?
    1 Answers
This would indeed be a suitable outdoor air kit for the Vantage Hearth fireplace you mention. It is especially recommended for new construction, as today's tightly insulated homes can cause poor performance from an open wood-burning fireplace.

These accessories are specific to Vantage Hearth appliances. You are likely correct about Tempco going out of business. However, if you could provide a model number for your fireplace, I'd be happy to see if we can match up these items for you.

    Perfect, after long search
I searched over various sites diligently for a reasonably priced outside air kit that would work for our space (also mobile home approved) and this was the perfect find! We coupled it with a wall thimble and now enjoy outside air for our wood burning stove.

    Good Value
The combustion air kit arrived on time and undamaged. All parts shown in the photo can with the kit however, I would suggest buying two band clamps for the hose and also a tube of waterproof chalking. Depending on your outer wall, you might consider longer screws for attaching the vent housing.
ProsOur fire is now easier to ignite and the fire burns much hotter. Also we have no more smoke back draft into the room. Just what we needed!
