Customer Q&A with Product Specialists

We do not carry Jotul parts, including those for the Jotul GF 200 series, as we are not a Jotul dealer. Venting approvals for direct vent gas stoves must come from the manufacturer's specific instructions for the exact model and revision, not general guidelines. Therefore, we cannot confirm the required minimum rise, maximum horizontal run, or clearances for your unit's installation in your wooden basement. While Jotul GF 200 series direct vent stoves are generally designed for horizontal wall termination, the precise specifications for your new basement location must be obtained from your unit's installation manual, available from Jotul at jotul.com or a Jotul dealer. We strongly recommend that the relocation be planned and completed by a local NFI certified hearth professional. They can verify the correct venting configuration for your specific unit and ensure proper clearances to the wood framing in your basement.

A standard metal zero pitch flashing would work and give you the required clearances.  However, you would need to contact a roofer to seal the area once the flashing is installed.

Before proceeding, you will want to ensure that moving the fireplace further back into the corner will not position the fireplace closer than the minimum clearances allowed by the fireplace manufacturer. While most direct vent pipe is twist-lock and will disassemble by twisting the pipe sections in the opposite direction, this pipe may not be cut. You will simply need to purchase a shorter pipe section after confirming the brand, part number and diameter of the pipe currently installed after confirming that no safety issues will be created by moving the appliance closer to a combustible wall. Even if the walls behind the fireplace are noncombustible or covered with noncombustible material, the fireplace may not be moved any closer than what the manufacturer allows.

Can you use direct vent piping to go down through the floor and then run to an outside wall?
Can you use direct vent piping to go down through the floor and then run to an outside wall?
What you are describing would require a power vent configuration, which is only available on a few select direct vent gas fireplaces.
