Unfortunately, it is not possible to cut a portion of the rug. If you decide to do so, that portion of the rug will fray and unravel.

Just what I was looking for
Perfect rug for in front of the hearth. Was looking for a rug that is not only fire-resistant, but also aesthetically pleasing. This rug fits the bill perfectly. Lays flat-not a thick rise to trip on or catch your foot. Neutral grey color. Very well made and best of all, does not singe, burn thru or melt if embers happen to fall on it. Vacuums up easily.

Just right hearth rug
The fire proof rug from the eFireplacestore is a perfect fit in front of my wood stove and has already proved itself valuable several times. It works the way it's meant to - no burned floor boards when I drop hot ashes.
