Can this be used on an outdoor fire pit?

I would advise against the use of this pilot assembly in an outdoor application as the changes in weather could cause it to deteriorate rapidly.

Does this work on a propane gas fireplace?

Yes, this ignitor assembly can be used for both natural gas and LP, but a conversion kit must be installed for LP usage. The proper kit is the Dexen Natural Gas to Propane Conversion Kit - For MVK-EI Safety Pilot Valves with Electronic Ignition.
