Customer Q&A with Product Specialists

Deepak B. from 5 Hickory Hill Rd Hillsborough NJ asked:
After replacing a brick front with a stone front on my wood-burning fireplace, I have exposed wood and sheetrock. How can I make this area fireproof?

Unfortunately, installing combustible materials like wood framing directly around a wood-burning fireplace opening is not permitted. There is no covering that can be applied to exposed wood framing while still allowing the fireplace to function as a wood-burning appliance. The facade materials and wood framing would need to be removed and replaced with non-combustible materials such as metal studs and masonry. Alternatively, if you wish to keep the current facade materials and framing, you could install an electric fireplace insert, as these appliances are designed to have zero clearance to wood framing.
