Real Fyre Ember Glow - EM-1

For a Real Fyre vented burner (G45 or G46), we do indeed recommend using the sand (natural gas) or vermiculite (propane) and the ember glow as directed in the installation instructions.

While the EM-1 is indeed designed for vented logs, there is a smaller bag that is marketed for use with the vent free models, known as an EM-1S and EM-11.

Is it indeed correct to use vermiculite rather than sand for an LP application, as the vermiculite allows air pockets to remain that ensures complete combustion of the LP gas. The ember glow material should be placed along the front of the burner pan, directly over the front burner tube. The ember material should not cover the rear portion of the pan. Lava granules should only be used as a design accent on the fireplace floor and should not be used to fill the pan.

The embers are manufactured from ceramic fiber, which is a non-toxic material that glows when heated. The material breaks down very slowly and has a negligible effect on air quality.

The ember glow material will last for many years before it needs replacement. Actual burn time will cause some variance of course, but the material can be expected to last for 3 years or more.

This product is manufactured from ceramic wool fibers, which give off a bright red glow that replicates the look of wood embers when heated. It is best to layer the product on the existing sand and maintain a thickness of approximately 1 inch. You may consider replacing your existing sand as well, as it can begin to hold in odors and turn dark after years of exposure to high temperatures.

In a vented application, yes. The ember glow material inherently releases a small amount of byproduct when heated, so it is important to use the product only in a firebox with a properly functioning vent system.

A single bag of the ember glow will suffice for 18 to 30 inch vented log sets. This will be enough to completely cover the ember burner tube on R.H. Peterson G45 and G46 burners. Additional ember glow can be used around the burner for decorative purposes.

The Ember Glow will sit on top of the sand which sits on the burner. Please that Ember Glow is only for use with vented log sets and only for use with natural gas sets.
