This is a Real Fyre Electronic Ignition Remote Ready Valve System to be used with certain Real Fyre Gas Log Burners. The electronic ignition system does not stay lit when your logs are turned off. There is not a standing pilot light. This feature saves energy because you are not burning gas when the logs are off. It is battery operated, so there are no wires needed. The system does not have variable flame height control thus the flame will always be the same height.

Remote Control Options For This Pilot Kit:

    • None - A remote control will not be provided with this unit.  You must provide a remote control that is compatible with this pilot kit in order to operate the set remotely.
    • Basic On/Off Remote Control (Real Fyre RR1a) - This remote will turn the unit on and off.
    • Deluxe On/Off Remote Control (Real Fyre RR2a) - This remote will turn the unit on and off. The RR2a also has a room temperature feature and thermostatic control.
    • Basic On/Off Wall Switch (Real Fyre WS-1) - This is a standard wall switch used to turn the unit on and off instead of a remote control.
    • Deluxe On/Off Wall Switch (Real Fyre WS-2) - This is a wall switch used to turn the unit on and off instead of using a remote control.  This Deluxe wall switch also has a timer.

It appears this electronic ignition unit can only operate on two D cell batteries (3v DC).  If there is no 120v hard-wire option, is there any reason the D cell batteries can't be swapped for a 120v AC > 3v DC adapter (assuming AC voltage is present)?

    1 Answer
There is not a tested, listed way to convert this to a 120V supply. However, Real Fyre does offer a very similar EPK-2V kit that does indeed run off a 120V supply (required, no option for batteries). Moreover, this also includes a variable flame remote control, which this standard EPK-2 does not offer.

What is the difference between the EPK-1 and EPK-2 Electronic Pilot Kits?
    1 Answer
Both are very similar in that they both provide battery-powered electronic spark ignition of the pilot and may be used with any number of On/Off controls, but the EPK-2 provides a much higher Btu input compared to the EPK-1. For example, the EPK-1 should not be used with a natural gas burner any larger than 24" while the EPK-2 may be used with any Real Fyre burner up to 60" wide. Additionally, the EPK-1 has a somewhat bulky and large battery box as the box houses both the batteries and the control module while the battery box included with the EPK-2 houses only the batteries with the module affixed to the valve. Subsequently, the EPK-2 has a more low-profile battery box which would result in having less-prominent gas controls.

I have Superior Ventless Gas Logs in my fireplace. They are Superior Model VFGL-24MSN-2.  They are manual start and I would like to add remote control capability. Will this kit or another kit, allow me to do this?
    1 Answer
We apologize, but, no, we do not offer anything that can add remote capabilities to your log set.

With this Real Fyre EPK-1 electronic pilot kit for natural gas logs, will I be able to start the whole process from the remote or wall switch or will I always have to manually light the pilot and then the burner from the remote or switch?
    1 Answer
Installing this kit with a compatible burner will allow you to light the pilot and burner with a remote or wall switch. Also known as "electronic ignition," this electronic pilot kit is sought after by customers who do not want a standing pilot flame. With a remote, wall switch or the rocker switch on the switch box, voltage will be sent to a spark ignitor and the pilot will light, allowing gas flow through to the burner.

Can this be used with the fireplace doors closed?
    1 Answer
It is not recommended. The control module that is part of this pilot assembly is sensitive to excessive heat and closing the doors can cause the module to overheat and malfunction.

Does this unit have a thermal coupler that cuts off if the wind blows out the flame?
    1 Answer
Because this unit is electronic, it uses a flame rod in place of a thermocouple. The flame rod sends a signal back to the control module to verify that flame is present. If the pilot flame extinguishes, the flame rod stops sending the signal back to the control module and the unit will shut down.
