Why do these pine cones come with a cancer warning?
Nearly all products produced today come with a prop 65 warning. Typically as long as you aren't inhaling, ingesting, or smelting them, you are in no danger. For more information you can visit the prop 65 website, or speak with your physician.

Are these pine cones and the lava rocks OK to use with nonvented gas fireplaces?
These products can indeed be used in an unvented application, but they must not come into direct contact with flame or impinge the operation of the burner in any way. They must be placed in or around the log set in a fashion that does not allow them to move or fall on to the burner.
