Hello Mike, the US Stove HB1520 is designed to burn wood directly on the firebrick floor of the firebox, not on grates. The owner's manual explicitly states not to elevate the fire using grates or irons and advises against installing a log cradle or grates, emphasizing that the fire should be built directly on the firebrick. The firebox is lined with firebrick, and the furnace includes a built-in ash pan for easy cleanout.
