I have an upper loft of a barn that is 24' x 32' x 8'. I just finished it in tongue and groove white cedar. I would like to install a ventless gas log set since I already have a 300 gallon propane tank feeding a gas log in my house. Would this unit give off too much heat for this space? I have a stairway that goes down to a smaller room downstairs that is currently not heated. That space is 8' x 32' and is partitioned off from the rest of the barn downstairs where I store a tractor and other lawn equipment. So, the gas logs would have fresh air coming from downstairs.

Answer:Based on the square footage of your area, this unit would be a good fit and would overheat the area. As long as there is definitely a positive seal between the partitioned area downstairs and any gas fumes that could come into contact with the fireplace, there should not be an issue with using the unit in this setting.

We are trying to decide whether to order this fireplace in cherry or nutmeg. The photos are the same for all the colors; even white. Do you have color samples or can you send us to another web page that shows the actual colors?

Yes, please see this online brochure from the manufacturer, which shows the mantel in various finishes:

Can a fan be installed on this model,? If so, how hard is it to hook up, and what is the additional cost?
By Brennan W. on January 9, 2017
Answer:A fan can be purchased for $195.30 for this unit, and will simply require the junction box on the unit be hardwired so you can plug the blower into the 120V outlet behind the lower access panel.

If some of your fireplace units are vent-free for natural gas, how is this then hooked up to the gas? I have a meter and I have the ability to potentially place a gas line to the fireplace unit. But what about venting the gas burned? I am looking at the Vail 26" Vent-free Special Edition Natural Gas Fireplace w/ wooden mantel. Will this heat an 800 square foot room? How many BTU's do I have to have?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on November 5, 2013
In order to heat an 800 square foot space, approximately 30,000 BTUs would be needed. This unit would be able to handle 550 square feet on its own.
Vent free fireplaces are designed to operate without a chimney or vent pipe. They can accomplish this because their burners are designed to operate with a very lean fuel mixture and the log assembly is placed so that it does not directly interfere with combustion of the gas. The only byproducts released are water vapor and carbon dioxide. However, it is important to note that operating a vent free appliance for more than 4 hours at a time can cause issues with moisture buildup in some rooms.
An alternate unit that could work and falls into the BTU category you need is the slightly larger Vail Premium Vent-Free Natural Gas Fireplace - 32" - VFP-32-BP20LN
. There is an accessory mantel cabinet that can work with this model as well, which is the Empire EMBF1S Standard Wooden Mantel Cabinet with Base - For 32" Fireplaces and Fireboxes - EMBF-1S-UO

We are looking for a fireplace that will heat the room. I see nothing in the description about a blower. Does this have one?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on January 28, 2013
Answer:Vent free units are an excellent option for heating a decently large space. This unit will be able to heat approximately 500 square feet on its own. A blower does not come standard, but can be added to increase thermal efficiency. The correct blower can be seen under the "accessories" tab on the item page.
