What size logs will this item cover? My log set is 24".
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on January 21, 2013
Answer:A single bag of the ember glow will suffice for 18 to 30 inch vented log sets. This will be enough to completely cover the ember burner tube on R.H. Peterson G45 and G46 burners. Additional ember glow can be used around the burner for decorative purposes.

I'm just wondering what these are actually made out of. Can you tell me?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 11, 2013
Answer:The ember glow material is made from ceramic wool. The material is a fibrous compound that glows continuously when heated.

I just noticed your site says the EM-1 embers aren't for use with the Real Fyre non-vented logs. My set of non-vented logs came with the embers two years ago, and they seem to have been fine. The instructions for the logs even said how to layer them. Are they now bad/dangerous to use with non-vented logs?

Do you place the Ember Glow "on top" of Vermiculite granules in a full chimney vented Real-Fyre propane fireplace? I read that you NEVER use Sand with a burner designated for Propane. Can I just use lava stone and get the glow?

Where do you put the Ember Glow? Does it go right on the logs?
By Magan B. on November 26, 2012
Answer:The Ember Glow will sit on top of the sand which sits on the burner. Please that Ember Glow is only for use with vented log sets and only for use with natural gas sets.

I would like some ember glow, vermiculite wool, or something like this for my vent free gas logs. Do you have something safe for non vented sets?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 1, 2013
Answer:Because of the possible danger of chemical byproducts being released into the room, it is only advisable to use the embers that come with the vent free log set from the factory. Replacement embers can usually be ordered, but the manufacturer name and model number would need to be known to have the correct quantity sent.

How long does one bag of this Real Fyre ember glow (EM-1) last?
By eFireplaceStore on September 14, 2015
Answer:The ember glow material will last for many years before it needs replacement. Actual burn time will cause some variance of course, but the material can be expected to last for 3 years or more.

What are these Real Fyre ember glow artificial embers made of? Are they toxic?
By eFireplaceStore on November 16, 2015
Answer:The embers are manufactured from ceramic fiber, which is a non-toxic material that glows when heated. The material breaks down very slowly and has a negligible effect on air quality.

I have a vented gas fireplace and want to use a Real Fyre pan burner system with river rocks. Can I use the Real Fyre Ember Glow on the pan and under the rocks?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 21, 2013
Answer:In a vented application, yes. The ember glow material inherently releases a small amount of byproduct when heated, so it is important to use the product only in a firebox with a properly functioning vent system.

I would like to "spruce up" my vented gas log fireplace since the sand and rock wool is very old and this item looks very interesting. How should I layer this? Do I put down more sand then place this ember glow on top of it?
By eFireplaceStore on February 27, 2015
Answer:This product is manufactured from ceramic wool fibers, which give off a bright red glow that replicates the look of wood embers when heated. It is best to layer the product on the existing sand and maintain a thickness of approximately 1 inch. You may consider replacing your existing sand as well, as it can begin to hold in odors and turn dark after years of exposure to high temperatures.

I have a propane fireplace. My grandson has picked off the moss-like stuff that covers all the tiny holes. Is the RealFyre ember glow what I need to replace and place back over all these tiny holes ?
By Kevin E. on October 27, 2011
Answer:If you have a vented burner assembly, yes. If you have a vent-free (unvented) unit, no. This product is not suitable for use with a vent-free appliance.

Which product, coals or embers, do you recommend for use with a non-vented LP gas log set?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on October 4, 2012
Answer:This product is not intended for use with any ventless/vent-free log set. We do not recommend adding any decorative accessories to ventless sets, as this could cause issues with incomplete combustion and harmful by-products. As a rule, you should only use the items that came with the log set and use them per the manufacturer's instructions.
