Yes, we would strongly recommend having your chimney thoroughly inspected and cleaned by a professional chimney sweep.

Should a chimney cleaning brush be the same size as the flue pipe or should it be oversized for cleaning friction?
Should a chimney cleaning brush be the same size as the flue pipe or should it be oversized for cleaning friction?
It is best to match a brush to your pipe diameter. A 6" round flue takes a 6" brush. Over-sizing the brush results in the brush bristles folding over which reduces their cleaning ability.

About Chimney Cleaning Tools

Every home with a chimney needs the right chimney cleaning products. From your ideal chimney brush to more chimney cleaning tools, there's no time like the present to stock up. You can go far beyond acquiring the average chimney sweep brush with our impressive inventory. Different-shaped soot and creosote brushes, chimney screws, chimney cleaning solutions, creosote removal tools, and more chimney cleaning tools help give you the best results possible. Let's face it, operating a fireplace is a dirty business. Don't let dangerous creosote, soot, or other blockages ruin your winter - get ahead of the game with the appropriate chimney cleaning products from our wide selection.

With recommended usage tips like applying the product weeks before you sweep and four 1 gallon cases provided, you'll be supplied with both the adequate amount of product and the tips to use your chimney cleaning tools with success. Lucky for hearth owners, there are plenty more available tips from informed home maintenance experts, hearth specialists, and consumer feedback, altogether, to ease the process along. For instance, reduce the dirty aftermath by placing a painter's drop cloth or a plastic tarp on top of the floor surrounding your fireplace. Bob Villa recommends this tip along with investing in some quality protective gear, like goggles or a dust mask. And hearth specialists share most fireplace owners will find these tips effective: use a chimney brush 1-2 inches greater than the size of your vent (most manufacturers recommend two inches), choose to clean your fireplace from the top instead of the bottom (although, the bottom may appear easier), and use a creosote modifying agent to reduce deeper levels of the creosote into a lighter, brushable ash.

Consider the chimney cleaning kit options, such as the AW Perkins masonry chimney brush kits that are accompanied with or without brushes. From vacuums for your firebox and vents, variable size chimney brushes, reliable cleaning products, and more, there's plenty here to satisfy your chimney cleaning and hearth needs. Included in those needs is the requirement for quality maintenance; Villa shares that using properly split and seasoned firewood is key in slowing the accumulation of creosote as years progress. Additionally, some of our own guidance material, the "Chimney Cap Buying Guide," gives you precise guidance for purchasing the correct chimney cap: vital to preventing common chimney obstructions, such as nests and more debris. With a wealth of chimney cleaning tools, related inventory, and guidance materials available for your perusal and purchase, eFireplaceStore.com can make your chimney maintenance process easier from start to finish.
