We received a logwood 2421 as a gift in the spring of 2010. We did not install until last week. The installer told us the grate was not included and we could not operate the unit without the grate.

Per the manufacturer, a grate is not included with this stove. In fact, per page 5 of the owner's manual, you have the option to use either a layer of sand or firebrick approximately 1 1/2" thick. US Stove does make a grate specifically for this stove, as well. Please follow the below link to view this item.

Could you please tell me the difference between a USS-G26 and a USS-G42 fire pit grate?
The descriptions look to be identical.
Also, do you make one of that type that is square?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on May 7, 2012
The only difference between these two grates is the dimensions. As one is made for the small logwood stove and one is for the large, so varies the length.
The length for the small version should read 17.25, rather than the 27.25.
Unfortunately, we do not have any other styles of grate like this that are square.

I need a grate that is 42" by 14". How big is this one?
By Chris on February 9, 2014
This grate is quite a bit smaller than the size you need. I show that it is only 21 inches long x 11 inches wide x 2.75 inches tall.

Would you be able to provide a 24x12 grate?
By Chris on February 9, 2014
While I do not carry a model to those exact dimensions, the closest I show that we offer is the Vogelzang Cast Iron Grate measuring 26" L x 10" W x 2.75" H.
