What exactly is an antique finish and veneer finish? Is it like veneer in the sense of the thin sheathing of wood?

Antique finish is a distress or patina look. A veneer is technically a thin layer of hardwood, usually thinner than 1/8 of an inch. Typically, the veneer is bonded or glued with adhesive to a surface that is hidden below.

Per the manufacturer, they do not have specific weight limits as it would depend on the surface that the mantel is mounted to, and they do not advise that their mantels be used to hold heavy objects.

Per the manufacturer, this shelf can indeed support a television, as long as the wall cleat is properly anchored to masonry or wall studs. The cleat that is included with the 60 inch shelf will be approximately 42 inches long.

This mantel takes advantage of a wall cleat for installation. The cleat will need to be screwed to the brick face of your fireplace and the mantel shelf will then hang from it.

Love It!
I'm so happy with my purchase of the Homestead Antique Finish Mantel! I don't think the picture does it justice as it's beautiful and very well made. It's actually not installed quite yet as my contractor is still doing the stonework. If there's any deviation, I'll submit an additional review but as it stands, I don't think I could have made a better selection -- either in design or price. This store has also provided good customer service and delivery was exceptionally fast and free.
Looks like it should cost more than it did -- very good workmanship.
None so far.

Good Online Store. Stylish Mantel. Easy Install.
The Item arrived on time and in good condition. We ordered it unfinished, so we had to apply a base-coat and the final coat of paint, before use. We mounted it against the brick chimney. It looks very stylish. For the price it was worth it. I wish the wood was harvested locally.
Easy to prepare and paint.
The installation needed a lot of fine-tuning. For example this 5ft mantel hooks on to a 4ft cleat. I had to attach the cleat to the brick fireplace. But when I placed the mantle on the cleat I found out that the top was not level. Any attempt to make the mantel level, lifts it slightly off of the cleat and then it does not feel snug. I had to shim wooden wedges from the bottom of the mantle to level it. I had to create my own. It would have been good if they provided some wood wedges from their waste-wood.

Perfectly Fit Needs
After doing some research, I found that this mantel fit my needs perfectly. Although I had someone else mount the mantel, there seemed to be little effort needed on his part. I placed additional fasteners at the base of the mantel to give extra support.
