Our fireplace does not have a damper in it. What do I need to do to install one? I was looking at chimney vestal plates.

We will need details regarding the existing fireplace to provide specific suggestions. Please view this brochure to see where the damper should be installed. For an existing fireplace, you will need to measure the throat of the fireplace opening to determine the correct size damper assembly to purchase. Parging mix will be needed to secure the damper and 2 x 4's will be needed to hold the damper in place while the mortar cures.
