Is a vent pipe screen available for this type of cap? My daughter is having problems with mice getting into her vent pipe.
By eFireplaceStore on October 24, 2016

    Answer:
I'm afraid not. I have successfully rectified the issue by cutting panels of 1/2 inch aluminum mesh and screwing it to each side of the cap, but that is the best solution that DuraVent approved.

I have one of these Dura-Vent DirectVent Pro Horizontal Aluminum High-Wind Vent Rain Caps on my Lope Stove Chimney. Some birds have built a nest in it this summer and now I need to remove the cap to clean the chimney. How does this cap come off of my chimney?
    By Will M. on July 22, 2015

    Answer:
The cap should be attached with 4 wood screws and adhered with non-hardening silicone sealant. To remove the cap, you would need to remove the 4 wood screws and remove the sealant with a putty knife. You will have to re-seal the cap to the exterior wall or vinyl siding standoff when replacing the cap using non-hardening sealant. The Rutland 500 Degree RTV Clear Silicone Sealant would be a suitable product.

What clearance is needed around the horizontal cap when mounted on a brick veneer face, ie., distance to eaves, from a corner brick wall, etc.?
    By Chris C. on July 22, 2014

    Answer:
Per national code, the clearance requirements are based on a manufacturer to manufacturer basis. If you could provide the model and manufacturer information from the appliance this termination cap will be installed with, I may be able to pull an owner's manual with specific clearance requirements listed.

I would recommend this item to a friend.
This part works well and is easy to install but the look is questionable. If it's mounted on a non visible side of the house who cares. But if it's on the visible side I would not want it. Looks are personal but the piece looks only 4 out of 5 Most importantly the guys at eFireplaceStore were ultra helpful as the manufacturer of the fireplace did not care to specify the need for an adapter for the vents. eFireplaceStore recommended the proper part and shipped right away. All systems work like a champ. Great products and great service - what else do you ask for? Oh yes, the price. Great too :-)
    Pros:
    works well fits well
    Cons:
    questionable look
