Do you make the Vail 10,000 in a vented model?
By Owen on February 28, 2017

    Answer:
That unit is only available as Vent free.

By Vicki from New Iberia, Louisiana on November 18, 2011
Would this fireplace be recommended for a bathroom?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on November 18, 2011

    Answer:
Vent free fireplaces, even low BTU models like this one, are not suitable for a bathroom installation.

It would be necessary to use a direct vent gas fireplace that has been rated for use in a bathroom. We have several models that meet this criteria that I will be happy to recommend, if a vented installation is a realistic option.

By James Belote from Alton, IL 62002 on October 29, 2012
Do you have gas logs that meet the following requirements:

    1. Vent-free
    2. 10,000 BTU or less (for use in a bedroom)
    3. Fits in an existing cast iron coal burner firebox that is 24" wide at the front and 22" wide at the back, 10.5" depth, and with height not an issue

Is a remote control available for it?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 30, 2012

    Answer:
The best item we have to suit your needs would be the Peterson Valley Oak log set. This particular version has a lower BTU output that is suitable for bedrooms and would fit your space requirements. It can also be controlled via a remote or wall switch.

By Tom from NJ on February 23, 2015
I currently have an electric fireplace set against an outside wall. It is a beautiful unit but it doesn't put out the heat required. Can I place this unit up against the existing drywall wall and bring in the gas line from behind the unit? What is required for a surround for this fireplace?
By eFireplaceStore on February 24, 2015

    Answer:
This unit can indeed be placed directly against a finished wall and fueled from a gas line from behind or beneath the unit. The unit must be framed into a 2x4 or 2x6 enclosure. Finishing options are completely up to you, but most customers will choose to have a unit enclosed into a custom made wooden cabinet or drywall enclosure.

This unit has perfect specs for what I am looking for but I want a 3 sided unit. Ideally it would be of the same or similar dimensions. (2 sides long, third side short) Do you have such a thing?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 31, 2013

    Answer:
Unfortunately, the peninsula units that we carry have a larger size and BTU output. A good example of a unit from the same series is the Vail Premium Vent-Free Natural Gas Peninsula Fireplace - 36" - VFP-36-PP32EN. The sizing of this unit is fairly standard for three sided models. I apologize that I do not offer a smaller unit.

By Christina Wampler from Morehead, KY on January 18, 2017
Are the logs ceramic or concrete?
    By Brennan W. on January 19, 2017

    Answer:
These logs are made of ceramic fiber.

Is the Vail l0,000 btu unit a freestanding unit?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on November 9, 2011

    Answer:
No, this unit is meant to be recessed into a wall or placed into an appropriately sized mantel cabinet.

By Pat from South Carolina on December 29, 2016
Can you recommend a mantel surround for this product? Do you have one available with shelves or a cabinet?
By Owen on December 29, 2016

    Answer:
You can pick any of the Mantels we carry.

By Anne Cockrill from Little Rock, Arkansas on November 22, 2011
Can this be installed in a wall?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on November 22, 2011

    Answer:
Yes, this fireplace may be installed into a wall. Please see the owner's manual for more information (you can download it on this product page).

On page 11 of that manual, you will see the framing dimensions for this unit for installing into a wall.

Can the louvers on the front of this Empire fireplace be loft out or covered by a stone surround so that only the thin metal frame is exposed?
    By Brennan W. on March 30, 2015

    Answer:
The louvers on this fireplace must remain uncovered. This is for circulation purposes as well as to allow the access panel to be available for operation.

By Jeanne from Spartanburg, SC on October 12, 2013
    Will this heat a 22 x 16 room?
By Tyler M. - NFI Certified Specialist on October 14, 2013

    Answer:
This fireplace's BTU rating of 10,000 would be sufficient for heating up to 280 square feet, just a bit below what you need. If the room is a bedroom, you cannot use a vent-free burner with a higher BTU rating. However, if it is not a bedroom, you can use these models, which can produce up to 20,000 BTUs:

Vail Vent-Free Natural Gas Fireplace with Remote Ready Controls - 24" - VFP-24-FP30LN

    Vail Vent-Free Propane Fireplace with Remote Ready Controls - 24" - VFP-24-FP30LLP

By Christa from Yawkey, WY on December 5, 2014
This description states "gas fireplace". Is this a natural gas or propane gas fireplace?
By eFireplaceStore on December 5, 2014

    Answer:
The unit is available in both natural gas and propane varieties. The gas type must be selected from the drop down menu labeled "Choose Fuel Type", just below the pricing information on the item page.
