Can a remote be used with this product?
    By Chris C. on October 13, 2016

I sincerely apologize for the confusion regarding several of the reviews left from other customers. Can this be installed outside on a deck? Can a tv be installed on top of it?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on March 3, 2014

    Answer:
This unit is not designed to be installed in an outdoor environment, as the firebox is manufactured of galvanized steel, which will not hold up to the weather over time. A true outdoor unit is the Alpine Outdoor 36 in. Natural Gas Vent Free Fireplace System. This unit uses a completely stainless steel chassis, burner, and grate. These components will be able to stand up to the humid outdoor air, without degrading over time.

It is only recommended to install a television above a vent free unit if the television can be recessed into an alcove. Vent free models produce a great deal of heat, which will easily damage electronics above the unit.

Can this be installed so only 2 sides show? Is there any reason it cant be enclosed on the one short side ?
By Tyler M. - NFI Certified Specialist on September 16, 2013

    Answer:
This particular model must have three open sides. The Vail is also available as a two-sided, see-thru model, but that unit must have both of the long sides open. There is no corner model version of the Vail available at this time. We apologize for this inconvenience.

I'm looking at installing this natural gas vent free unit in the mountains at approximately 8,250 foot elevation. Are there any issues with the pilot light going out at this altitude or is there an option for electronic ignition?
By eFireplaceStore on October 28, 2014

    Answer:
Unfortunately, electronic ignition is not an option with this vent free appliance. Pilot outages can occur at high altitudes, but the problem will be lessened if your local fuel supplier derates the gas supply.

Do any of your natural gas see thru fireplaces have the option to buy a blower besides the Napoleon model?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on April 16, 2012

    Answer:
Yes, many of our see-through units do indeed have provisions to add an optional blower. Please let us know if you are interested in a direct vent or vent-free unit, and we would be happy to help you find a see-through unit that fits your application and budget. Simply reply to this email with this information, and we will be in touch.

I currently have a Vanguard model FBPS 36 inch peninsular vent free natural gas peninsula firebox. Will the screen inserts on your Vail premium 36 inch firebox fit the Vanguard I have ?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on June 26, 2012

    Answer:
Per the diagrams for both units, it would appear that the screen panels are approximately 1/2" narrower and 2" taller than the opening of your FBPS. There will also not be any mounting slots on the FBPS to attach the panels, so it will be necessary to modify the unit for the panels to work.

As I mentioned on your previous inquiry, a sheet metal fabricator could make the screens or they could modify the panels for the Vail unit to fit your model. Please let me know if I can assist you in any other way.

We've had our Empire Vent-free fireplace approximately 2 months now and it has done exactly what we needed it to do. We bought it as back-up heat for our basement in case the power ever went out and we were gone. So far, that has not happened, but we just got back from vacation and set it on low as back-up for our furnace. While we were gone, temps dropped to -18 below zero and 14 inches of snow was on the ground when we arrived home. Our home was toasty warm upstairs and downstairs. Kudos to our Empire fireplace.

We ordered our fireplace on a Thursday and it was delivered the following Tuesday. The delivery man was very helpful in assisting us with it. When it was unpacked, we were more than pleased at the appearance of the fireplace. When it was all together and hooked up, we turned it on and it was just like being in a cabin in the woods with a real fireplace - so cozy. We are very pleased with the quality and the service from this seller. I would definitely recommend it my friends.

This unit is doing a great job for the space we installed it in. The room is 20 x 30 and heats up nicely. The flames are nice looking and the fire is quiet. The fan included does not blow as well as others I have seen and is also a little noisy, but I've seen other units that the blowers are much more noisy than this unit. Installed the unit ourselves without any issues. The directions could be written a little better.
    Pros:
Stock unit looks good and works well Flames look nice
    Cons:
Noisy blower Accessories look cheap so we did not install the optional doors The blower is temperature activated. I did not see that in the directions so when we first started the unit we thought it eas not working.

Looks great and works very well.

Well made unit. Installation is straight forward. Could use some better instructions for the burner unit regarding remote control options. Looks great when finished with optional trim kits.
    Pros:
Easy install, looks great, see through design.
    Cons:
Installation of extruded outer frame is difficult and wimpy using supplied hardware. I drilled and countersunk some holes in the frame and used sheet metal screws to attach firmly.
