Everyone will notice the thoroughly modern look the innovative CRYSTALINE ember bed and patented CRYSTALITES bring to the room. Not only is it easier to use and more in keeping with your design sensibilities than your current fireplace, it's also more efficient. So you'll save money while dazzling guests and providing a drafty corner with some much-needed heat. You really can't ask for much more from a secondary heat source.

*Please Note: This fireplace insert is designed to use natural gas. If you select propane as your fuel type, a conversion kit will be included with the unit. Also, the insert is shown with separately purchased fireglass.

What is the fireplace mantle height from the opening?

    By Will M. on October 4, 2016

    Answer:
If you are looking for the mantel clearances, this information is covered on page 11 of the installation manual.

Would like to see a bigger picture of this unit. I am not able to enlarge the picture and it is very small and difficult to see what you are purchasing.

    Answer:
This item can be viewed in a much larger format by opening the product brochure. This is listed as a PDF at the bottom of the item features page, titled "download product manual #2".

This brochure will contain a large image of the unit on page 4.

How do I remove the glass panel for cleaning purposes?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on September 30, 2013

    Answer:
The clasps are spring action types. To open them, simply reach to the back of each clasp and pull up on the metal tab. The clasps will unlatch under their own tension. With all four clasps removed, the clasp ends can be lifted out of the slots on the door frame and the door can be then lifted out of the way.

To install, hold the door in position over the opening, then drop the grasping edge of each clasp into the slot on the door frame. Push downward on the metal tab at the back of each clasp until it locks downwards.

This unit has a blower system but I do not see any vents.....where are they?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on November 18, 2011

    Answer:
They are indeed difficult to see, but the blower channels are built into the face of the unit, just inside the top and bottom of the surrounding outer frame.

The channels have been kept to a minimum in size to maintain the clean faced appearance of this unit, however they are still very effective at circulating room air.

We have a coal insert now. We want a gas insert in the coal insert's place. How do we convert?
By Kevin E. - Fireplace Specialist on March 1, 2012

    Answer:
The first step in this renovation would be ensuring that gas supply has been made available to this fireplace. The coal insert would need to removed so that measurements of the masonry fireplace could be taken. For example, this insert requires opening dimensions of at least 28" W x 21 3/4" H x 18" D. After removing your current insert, you would simply install this one and the necessary venting. We'd be happy to build a venting quote for you if you'd like to reply with the details of your chimney.

I have an existing fireplace that is 30" wide x 28" high x 21" deep. I'd like to raise it to make it look like it is in your picture. Do I need a riser box? Also, does your vent kit include terminations? What else do I need to complete the project? Also, I need to install an electrical outlet (I already have gas in the fireplace). Can I install it inside the fireplace cavity?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on November 13, 2013

    Answer:
It is possible to raise the insert slightly within your fireplace opening, but given your opening height, there is not much room to do so. The opening in our stock photo if built up from the floor by approximately 12 inches. The only way to achieve the same look would be if your fireplace was built the same way.

The vent liners and termination are the only other components needed to complete the installation. An electrical outlet can indeed be installed within the cavity of the fireplace opening.

We are interested in this fireplace with a black surrounding.
    By Will M. on April 25, 2014

    Answer:
The black surround is available via the drop down menu on the product page that says "Choose Surround."

By Mike from seattle Wa on November 26, 2011
I have a fireplace opening of 40" w x 26 3/4" high, is there a surround kit available that is not overwhelming?
By Kevin E. - Fireplace Specialist on November 28, 2011

    Answer:
Unfortunately, Napoleon only makes one size surround for this insert and it covers openings as large as 42" Wide by 25" High. There currently are no trim kits available that would allow this unit to fully cover your opening.

By Ron from Buffalo, NY on September 28, 2012
I see that this unit uses a control knob to adjust blower speed and flame heat. Is it possible to adjust these with a F60 remote control instead? Some literature I read says that it uses a F50 remote for thermostatic control and others say F60. Which is correct?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 1, 2012

    Answer:
Blower control on this unit is strictly operated by the manual control knob. Currently, there is not a remote option that would allow you to vary the blower speed.

Napoleon has manufactured several thermostatic remotes: the F60 is the current model, which replaced the previous F52 and F50 models.

I'm interested in purchasing a direct vent gas fireplace. Something more contemporary such as river rock as opposed to fake logs. I noticed 2-3 including the Napoleon GDI-30G. I will have this professionally installed, but can you tell me whether price includes 25ft vent kit?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on January 16, 2013

    Answer:
No, the 25-foot vent kit is not included in the base price on this page, but you can see the vent kit options in the "Venting Components" tab. Here are the vent kit options for two co-linear 3" diameter liners:

Is there a option to get a river rock media kit instead of the glass or amber for this fireplace?
By Tyler M. - NFI Certified Specialist on June 3, 2013

    Answer:
Unfortunately, no, this direct vent insert can only be used with the included glass ember bed.

By David from Washington, DC on June 1, 2013
What does "the unit is not approved to be recessed" mean?
By Tyler M. - NFI Certified Specialist on June 3, 2013

    Answer:
This is a fireplace insert, meaning it is only suitable for installation inside an existing fireplace (brick/masonry or manufactured). It cannot be recessed or framed into a wooden enclosure. If you need a model that can be recessed or framed like this, you will need one of our zero-clearance direct vent fireplaces.

By Michelle from Seattle, Washington on November 5, 2013
We have an old fireplace that we are converting to gas. We took the measurements. Can you confirm if this fireplace would work for these dimensions, and what all we would need to purchase to successfully install it?

    26" high
    19" deep
    36.5" wide at front
31" wide near rear (@16" depth)
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on November 5, 2013

    Answer:
This product will indeed fit your fireplace opening properly. Only the venting liners and termination kit will need to be added. If you would like to provide the dimensions of your chimney flue and the height of the chimney, I can supply links to the proper kits.

By Barbara from Durango, CO on October 19, 2015
Does the Napoleon GDI-30G direct vent gas fireplace insert with glass door and reflective porcelain panels have to be installed in a fireplace with a chimney? Can it be installed with a vent to the outside and not through a chimney?
    By Brennan W. on October 20, 2015

    Answer:
This unit does indeed need to be installed in an existing masonry fireplace with a liner running the length of the chimney.

By Leigh from fwb, Florida on February 3, 2012
We would like to insert this model into our existing brick gas burning fireplace. I want to cover all the brick with Sheetrock for a smooth and modern look. Is it going to be safe to have Sheetrock instead of a tile around the frame of the insert?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on February 6, 2012

    Answer:
Per the manufacturer, this unit is not rated to come in to direct contact with any combustible materials. This would rule out the use of any type of paper faced sheetrock. It would be necessary to use some sort of material, such as tile, stone, or concrete board to surround the unit.
