I have an outdoor firewall with a natural gas fire. It is constructed of concrete block with a concrete cap and approximately 4' long and 3' high. I originally put 2'x4' porcelain tiles for the backing of the fire. I am looking for alternative materials that I can use behind the fire. I will need to cut them to size and ideally, it will be fairly thin material less than one inch. What are my possible options?

Some manufacturers recommend a grout and mortar material with acrylic latex additive to allow for some flexibility such as Mapei Kerabond/Kerlastic. It is also recommended to use low-density non-combustible finish material.
Can this material be cut to fit a custom made firebox?

No, this liner is only suitable for use within the 36" Tahoe Deluxe gas fireplaces. All of our similar black reflective kits cannot be cut or modified.

Please note that this panel kit will only work with Empire's Tahoe Deluxe 36" models and will not work with any other manufactured fireplace or in any other application. While the installation of these panels is quite simple if you have this fireplace, the kit will arrive in set measurements and may not be cut. To answer your question, these panels are much more lightweight when compared to the much thicker, refractory cement panels used with wood burning fireplaces. These panels are purely decorative.
