I have a fireplace that is 25" H x 36" x W x 20" D, and the back wall is about half the size of the front. Will this fit?
    1 Answer
While the manufacturer markets this product as an "insert," it's actually a zero-clearance fireplace and should not be installed into an existing wood burning fireplace opening like a true fireplace insert.

Our natural gas fireplace flame is very blue, not orange like the picture. Is there specific reason for this? Also, it seems to have a smell when it's on for 15 or 20 minutes.  Is this a "new smell" that will go away with use?
    1 Answer
As I'm unable to locate an order in our system with your information, I recommend bringing this information to the attention of your installer or dealer. A mostly blue flame is not much of a concern as complete combustion will result in a blue flame, however, you should have your inlet pressure checked to ensure it's proper for the fireplace. Regarding the odor, any new gas hearth system will have an odor that should dissipate over time. Try running the heater on high for several hours with a window cracked to see if this helps.

I have an old fireplace which is 29 1/2 inches wide x 241/2 inches high x 19 1/2 inches deep. Will this unit still work okay? Is there a trim piece to cover any gaps?

    1 Answer
While the FDF300R will fit your opening (provided it does not taper and you can maintain the 29 1/2 wide for at least 14 inches of the depth), there is no trim kit available for this model.  You will likely need to have your own custom-made locally for a proper finish.

I would like to place a fireplace mantle above this fireplace. Will this help with the heat protection and how high should the mantle be above the fireplace?
    1 Answer
Please click here to view our fireplace hoods that will protect your mantel.  While the requirement for installing a mantel shelf above a masonry fireplace opening without a wood insert installed is normally 12" measured from the base of the mantel to the top of the fireplace opening, the installation instructions for the manufactured wood insert should be referred to for any additional clearance requirements. To answer your question, there is no nationally-accepted code requirement for installing a mantel above a wood insert.  If this is a gas unit, please refer to the manufacturer for the clearance.
