What is the gain on this fitting? I need to offset 6"
    1 Answer
Using only these two elbows for an offset, the movement center-to-center is 4-3/8".  The shortest 8DM pipe, a 12" length, can be put between the elbows for a 9" offset.

Will a pair of these with an 18” piece gain me 15” offset?
    1 Answer
No. To achieve an offset of exactly 15 inches (center-to-center), you will need to use the 24" length 8DM pipe between these two 30-degree elbows.

Is there a way to get an 8-inch offset?
    1 Answer
The closest we can get to an 8-inch offset using the 8DM pipe (which can only be used with Superior fireplaces) would be a 9 inch offset with a 25 3/4 inch rise by using the two 30 degree elbows with a 12-inch length between the elbows.

When using an offset doesn't it make it difficult to send a cleaning brush through it?
    1 Answer
No, since the only offsets available for this type of chimney pipe are 30-degress, this is still fairly easy to clean for an experienced chimney sweep.

Is the return elbow the one with the straps and the stainless pipe crimped on one end?
    1 Answer
Yes, the return elbow is the one with the straps.  These straps are to support the weight of the chimney pipe lengths after/above the offset.

    Nick
    from Plymouth, WI asked:
    November 11, 2017
Why does one end of the inner 30 degree elbows have a crimped end? If starting with an elbow section, which piece do you start with off the fireplace unit? None of the other pipes have a similar end. I am using a 12 inch straight pipe between the elbow sections to move the pipe back into the chase to avoid an exterior wall overhead.
    1 Answer
The crimped end is meant to be pointed downward when installing the elbow set.

Can I put a short piece of pipe in between the two 30 degree elbows for FMI/Superior 8 inch diameter woodburning chimney venting pipe?
    1 Answer
You can indeed install a short section of the FMI/Superior 8DM chimney pipe between the elbows to increase the offset yielded.

Is the 8" dimension the inner or outer pipe measurement of this venting pipe?
    1 Answer
This is indeed an 8 inch inner diameter chimney component and is the appropriate offset for the 8DM chimney system you have already ordered.

What is the length of an 8" elbow section?
    1 Answer
The individual height of each elbow is 8 1/4 inches. Two elbows back to back yields 16 3/8 inches of rise and 4 3/8 inches of offset.

What kind of guidelines are there for bends in the chimney pipe? Is there a minimum straight run after the bend?
    1 Answer
Chimney offset guidelines are established by the manufacturer of the fireplace. Class A chimney pipe only allows a maximum of a 30-degree offset, but each model has its own restrictions and limitations on number of elbows used and the total offset distance.

When do I have to use these wood fireplace 30 degree elbows?
    1 Answer
You would use these 30-degree elbows on a chimney run that is obstructed in some way from a straight vertical run. For example, if you have to go around a rafter or some other obstruction. It is always best to vent 100% straight vertically with class A chimney pipe such as this if you can, but these elbows will allow for an offset to get around any obstruction.

    Offset Elbows
Elbows fit well with the pipe components. Hanger straps on the top elbow for support. The charts in the manual do not give you the same offset you will get with the components. Better call and get help figuring it out.

    30* adapters
Used these guys to offset my chimney thru the cathedral ceiling in my living room. The fireplaces is in the middle of the room, and the rafter peak is directly above the fireplace, so these offsets were perfect for getting around it. They don't swivel like hvac elbows, but I had convinced myself they did by looking at the photo on the sales page. The photo is actually two adapters connected together. Anyways, they work great for getting around obstacles and were a must for my install.
