Our 1925 home has a wood burning fireplace with no liner. The engineer says it's too narrow to put in a liner and an insert is the way to go. Do you agree?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on January 3, 2014
Answer:An insert likely is the way to proceed. Most wood burning fireplace inserts require an insulated 6 inch stainless steel liner. With most chimney opening being at least 7 by 7, this should work for your needs. If you are able to confirm the dimensions of the chimney flue, I can assist you further.
