    Just wondering if this is a solid piece or If there are openings near the handle that would let air and debris in?

    You would drill holes in your stove pipe to install the damper. There would be holes on each side.

    My 8" iron damper fell down due to rust. There is a rusted hole next to damper opening due to leaking water. I just replaced chimney cap to eliminate further leaks. What needs replacing besides the damper?

    We advise that you have a chimney sweep to come inspect your venting or flues to see if there is any other corrosion to worry about for replacements.
